The project comprises the construction of road/rail tolled bridge with a span of 923 meters over the river Zambezi; border facilities in each country and approximately 10 km of bridge approach and access roads. To ensure a complete and efficient cross-border infrastructure system, the additional project components include: (i) implementation of Trade Facilitation instruments and border-related procedures and policies; (ii) Technical Assistance support; and (iii) complementary cross-cutting components.
The Bridge Construction is to be completed in Q4 2019, the One Stop Border Post works to be completed Q1 2019 and Q4 2019 for the Botswana and Zambia side respectively.
The Technical Assistance services, all supported through the EU-AITF Grant shall be completed in 2019.
This phase 2 Grant (administered by the Government of Botswana) is to be used for expert support to the Project Management Team (PMT). Any gaps that may be noted in the post-construction operation and trade facilitation arising from activities covered under TA 1 shall also be covered under this tranche.
