The project involves the rehabilitation of 208 km of road from Kagitumba through Kayonza to Rusumo. The road starts form Kagitumba (border of Uganda and Rwanda) on the Northern Corridor and ends at Rusumo on the Central Corridor (border with Tanzania).
The contract of works was signed in december 2016, contractor is on ground for site mobilisation stage, design review. works are expected to start when all these preliminary activities are completed in near future ( by april 2017).
The EU-AITF Investment Grant will be used for financing:
- technical assistance ( includes the Recruitment of a PFM International Expert (2 years), consultant to set-up a Road and Bridge Asset Management System, consultant to set-up a Road Accident Information System and consultant to conduct a study on the Road Maintenance Fund allocation formulae) capacity building T-SWAP, pipeline road studies and road safety audit components
- civil works services of the Kagitumba- Bugaragara section (25km) of the Kagitumba-Bugaragarai section of the project road with possible using of the uncommitted fund/ or savings to increase the length of the road and maximaze the soio economic impact.
As at end October 2016 to mid-November 2016, the procurement process for the recruitment of a consultant to do the supervision of works and as well as a contractor for works will be finalised for contracts signature.
