The project is a rehabilitation of the 219 km road from Kagitumba through Kayonza to Rusumo including a spur of 11 km from Ryabega-Nyagatare and construction of 50 km feeder road. The road starts from Kagitumba (border of Uganda and Rwanda) on the Northern Corridor and ends at Rusumo on the Central Corridor (border with Tanzania).
The EU-AITF Investment Grant will be used for financing:
- technical assistance including the recruitment of
(i) PFM International Expert (2 years);
(ii) consultant to set-up a Road and Bridge Asset Management System;
(iii) consultant to set-up a Road Accident Information System;
(iv) consultant to conduct a study on the Road Maintenance Fund allocation formulae),
(v) capacity building T-SWAP (recruited); and
(vi) pipeline road studies (in procurement process) and road safety audit components - civil works services of the Kagitumba-Bugaragara section (25km) of the Kagitumba-Bugaragarai section of the project road with possible use of the uncommitted funds/or savings to increase the length of the road and maximise the socio economic impact.
As at end December 2017, the rehabilitation works are underway and the recruitement of the T-SWAP completed. Procurement of other services are underway.
