The project involves the rehabilitation of 208 km of road from Kagitumba through Kayonza to Rusumo. The road starts from Kagitumba (border of Uganda and Rwanda) on the Northern Corridor and ends at Rusumo on the Central Corridor (border with Tanzania). Approximately 75% of project works have been completed as of end-2018 and the remaining part is expected to be finalized in Q4 2019.

The EU-AITF Investment Grant will be used for financing:

- technical assistance including the recruitment of

(i)   PFM International Expert (2 years);

(ii)  consultant to set-up a Road and Bridge Asset Management System;

(iii) consultant to set-up a Road Accident Information System;

(iv) consultant to conduct a study on the Road Maintenance Fund allocation formulae),

(v)  capacity building T-SWAP (recruited); and

(vi) pipeline road studies (in procurement process) and road safety audit components - civil works services of the Kagitumba-Bugaragara section (25km) of the Kagitumba-Bugaragarai section of the project road with possible use of the uncommitted funds/or savings to increase the length of the road and maximise the socio economic impact.
