Capacity building to support establishment of Internet Exchange Points has been provided to 30 countries.
As at 31 December 2017, 15 new internet exchange points have been set up.
A new website has been deployed for the AXIS project. This is part of the visibility and communication activity which has been added to the project. Please see the following link http://pages.au.int/axis
The grant from the ITF is being used to mobilize and provide capacity support to internet service providers and internet community stakeholders for the establishment of IXPs. To this end, two series of 30 capacity-building workshops are being organised, one dealing with organisational arrangements and best practices of IXPs, the other with technical set up and administering of IXPs. It will also be used to support the establishment of regional internet exchange points by providing grants to selected IXPs to grow towards becoming regional internet exchange points. Furthermore it will be used for policy and regulatory reform by developing regional policies and regulations to support the development of regional internet carriers. It will also be used to provide grants to selected technical institutions to integrate/adopt a curriculum on internet exchange technologies.
